I began my teaching career 15 years ago, after ten years of supporting adults with learning disabilities. After earning my PGCE and QTS, I taught in mainstream secondary schools, focusing on A Level psychology and supporting SEND students in their BTEC courses. I later spent eight years at an NAS accredited secondary school that received outstanding Ofsted ratings for three successive years.
My teaching approach focuses on nurturing students' confidence, facilitating effective communication, and supporting emotional regulation. This holistic method fosters a balanced learning atmosphere where students can excel academically and personally.
My experience includes teaching Maths & English (KS2 , KS3 & KS4 and Functional Skills), PSHE, and ancillary subjects that focus on students' well-being, interests, and functional skills.
I am trained as a Mindfulness teacher and incorporate my knowledge of mindfulness, neuroscience, and psychology to help students understand and regulate their emotions.
I also deliver workshops to other teachers on emotional regulation strategies, including daily meditation.
My specialist experience is working with young people with ADHD, ASD, PDA, trauma, non-verbal communication, anxiety, ESL, epilepsy, and challenging behaviors.
I develop a nurturing and understanding rapport with my students, integrating their special interests into lessons to enhance engagement and self-esteem. My approach is warm, non-judgmental, and therapeutic, with predictable and consistent lesson routines.
I use clear instructions and visual aids to accommodate their visual learning styles and include sensory and movement breaks.
I maintain a calm, structured environment to minimize sensory overload and focus on developing social and communication skills.
Tasks are divided into smaller segments to enable shorter periods of focus. I integrate children's interests and multi-sensory methods, including tactile activities and sensory experiences, and incorporate movement breaks to help refocus their attention.
My approach includes games and practical activities, creating strong links between the curriculum and real-life experiences, enhancing problem-solving skills, and bridging gaps in understanding.
